Getting started with Forge Capmoor
A first-time guide to opening an account, connecting an exchange, setting up market monitoring and finding your way around the dashboard. Allow about half an hour, less if your manager helps you.
Before you begin
This guide is for anyone using the platform for the first time. When you have followed it you will have a verified, protected account, a connected exchange, a set of pairs to watch and alerts that tell you what is happening, and you will know where to look to manage all of it.
Have your phone, an email address you use every day and a photo ID to hand. If you would rather be talked through the steps, your personal manager will do so when they call.
Step 1: Register your account
Complete the registration form with your name, email address and telephone number, then choose a strong password. A unique passphrase of four or more unrelated words is both easier to remember and harder to guess than a short mix of symbols.
Right after signing in, switch on two-factor authentication in the security settings and, if you like, set an anti-phishing code. Details are on the security page. You will also be asked to verify your identity, as described in the KYC and AML policy.
- Use an email address only you can read
- Choose an authenticator app rather than text messages
- Save your recovery information somewhere safe
Step 2: Connect your exchange
To let the platform trade, you connect an account you hold at a cryptoasset exchange by creating an API key on the exchange and pasting it into the connections page. Give the key permission to read balances and to trade. Never allow it to withdraw.
If the exchange offers an IP allow-list, add the addresses shown on our connections page. Remember that a key is like a password: keep the secret part private, do not send it to anyone, including us by email, and delete it on the exchange if you ever suspect it has been exposed.
- Read and trade rights only
- Use an IP allow-list where offered
- One key per platform, so it can be revoked separately
Step 3: Set up analysis and monitoring
Choose which trading pairs the platform should watch, such as BTC/GBP or ETH/GBP, and pick a strategy with your manager. Then set the conditions you care about, including the maximum amount that a strategy may use, and the level of market movement that should trigger a notification.
Turn on alerts by email or push. Alerts tell you when a strategy opens or closes a position, when it pauses because of volatility and when something needs your attention. The more you understand the settings, the more useful the alerts become.
- Start with a small number of pairs
- Set an amount you are comfortable losing
- Keep alerts on for the first few weeks
Step 4: View and manage from the dashboard
The dashboard shows your balance, open positions, recent activity and the status of each strategy. The wallet section handles deposits and withdrawals, the strategies section lets you start, pause and edit them, and the settings page holds your security options, notifications and audit history.
Check it regularly, at least once a week, and adjust settings when your plans change. You can pause any strategy at any time, though closing positions early may crystallise a loss.
- Review balance and activity weekly
- Pause a strategy if you do not understand its behaviour
- Look at the audit history monthly
A checklist for your first week
Setting up is quick, but the first week is when good habits form. Work through this list in order and tick each item off. If you get stuck on any of it, your personal manager can do it with you over the phone.
- Day one: register, sign in, switch on two-factor authentication and set your anti-phishing code. Upload your identity documents so that verification can begin.
- Day two: speak to your manager, ask every question you have and make a note of the answers. Ask them to explain each fee that could apply to you and what a risk pause looks like on the dashboard.
- Days three and four: once you are verified, connect your exchange with a read and trade key only. Choose one or two pairs and one strategy, and set how much the strategy may use. Keep it small.
- Days five to seven: watch what happens. Look at each alert, open the activity log and compare it with what you expected. Change nothing in a hurry, but pause the strategy if anything surprises you.
What your manager will and will not do
Your manager will explain the platform, help you complete each setup step, talk through the fees and risks and answer questions in plain language. They will not tell you to invest a particular amount, promise a result, or ask for your passwords or codes. If a conversation ever feels different from that, end it and tell us at once. The decision to deposit, and how much, is always yours, and you can stop whenever you like.
It is also worth telling your manager a little about your circumstances, such as whether you have any experience and how much you are comfortable risking. That helps them point you at settings that fit you, rather than defaults that do not.
If something does not work
The commonest problems are simple to fix. A verification that has stalled is usually a photo that is cropped or dark, and a new one clears it. A connection that fails is usually a key that has trade rights switched off, or an IP allow-list that does not include our addresses. A missing alert is normally a notification setting that was left off. When in doubt, contact [email protected] with a screenshot, but never with a password, a code or a key secret.
Important notes
Nothing about this guide, the platform or your manager's help guarantees a profit. Markets are volatile, and you can lose some or all of the money you put in. You alone are responsible for your investment decisions. Read the risk disclosure before you deposit.
Do not invest money you need for everyday costs, and do not borrow to invest. Start with an amount you would be comfortable losing, and increase it later only if you understand what the platform is doing and it suits your goals.
